Erickson Commits to Fredonia
Worcester Railers JHC forward, Josh Erickson, has announced his commitment to play NCAA Division III hockey at SUNY Fredonia beginning with the 2026-27 season. The Danville, Calif., native has posted 22 goals and 20 assists for 42 points in 48 games this season, and he will not be making the trip to western New York alone. His linemate Ben Jarosz committed to Fredonia earlier this season, and the two will continue their partnership in the Blue Devil program.
Erickson first connected with head coach Jeff Meredith and the Fredonia staff in December through a virtual visit, which eventually led to an in-person campus trip. The coaching staff made clear what they valued in his game.
“I began communicating with Coach Meredith and the Fredonia coaching staff in December of this year. We initially connected through a virtual visit, which eventually led to an in-person visit later in the season. Throughout that process, the coaching staff emphasized their appreciation for the grit and work ethic I bring to the ice, both with and without the puck. They also liked my ability to find soft areas in the offensive zone and capitalize on scoring opportunities.”

“Going into the process, I had a strong feeling that Fredonia could be a great fit, but I wasn’t completely certain at first,” said Erickson. “Once Coach Meredith helped set up a campus visit for Ben Jarosz and me, it quickly became clear that it was the right place for me. Academically, I was drawn to the success and pride of the alumni network, which speaks volumes about the school’s culture. From a hockey standpoint, Coach Meredith has built a strong foundation with a young and talented group, creating an exciting future for the program. I’m especially looking forward to continuing to play alongside my linemate, Ben Jarosz.”
Meredith, now in his 38th season at the helm, is the longest-tenured coach in the SUNYAC and one of the most decorated in Division III, with three conference championships, two NCAA Final Four appearances, and more than 440 career wins.
Erickson came to the Railers via a trade around Thanksgiving and credited the environment built by head coach Sean Bertoni for a meaningful jump in his development.
“Being traded to the Worcester Railers JHC around Thanksgiving last year opened up a great opportunity for my development,” he said. “Under Coach Bertoni’s demanding and structured coaching style, I’ve grown into a more disciplined, resilient, and hard-working player. He emphasizes accountability within a structured system while still allowing me to play to my strengths. I ultimately chose to sign with the Railers because I knew the organization would prepare me well for the next level, while also providing a close-knit, competitive environment that I’ll always value.”
Worcester Railers JHC head coach Sean Bertoni had high praise for both Erickson and the pairing heading to Fredonia.
“Josh is the ultimate competitor. He plays each shift like it is his last, and that is a rare quality. He has made a big jump from year one to two offensively, but one of his biggest strengths is his work in the circle. He has been plus-63 percent on faceoffs all year, and that is a key detail in this game. I am excited that Josh and Benny will continue their path together. Fredonia has two tremendous players joining their program.” – Coach Sean Bertoni, Worcester Railers JHC
With Fredonia secured and Jarosz already on board, Erickson has one remaining item on his agenda in Worcester.
“This season, my primary goal is to help bring a championship back to the city of Worcester,” he said. “As a veteran leader, I take pride in fostering a strong sense of unity within our group and ensuring we are as connected as possible heading into the playoffs. Having played for several teams throughout my junior career, I can confidently say this group is special, and I’m committed to doing everything I can to help us succeed in the biggest moments.”
The NCDC congratulates Josh Erickson on his commitment to SUNY Fredonia and thanks him for his contributions to the Worcester Railers JHC. The Railers JHC organization wishes Josh continued success on and off the ice.
